Grandvalira Resorts closes a successful winter season with 2,320,786 ski days sold

Positive balance for the Andorra ski resorts, which offset the lack of snow during early december with excellent attendance during Christmas, January, and February

Grandvalira increases ski days sold by 2.9% compared to last winter, Pal Arinsal sees a significant 11.8% growth in visitors, and Ordino Arcalís comes just 0.9% shy of matching its best-ever season

The digital strategy of the resorts continues to reach record numbers, with a 19% growth in sales through their websites, while transactions via the new APP increase tenfold

Grandvalira Resorts closed this Sunday a successful winter season with a total of 2,320,786 ski days sold. This figure represents a 4% increase compared to the previous season, marking a significant improvement, partly thanks to the increase in snowfall in Andorra during key periods. This also helped ensure a positive outcome for each of the Grandvalira Resorts. On one hand, Grandvalira increased ski days sold by 2.9% compared to the previous season. On the other hand, Pal Arinsal was the domain that saw the most growth compared to last winter, with an 11.8% rise, while Ordino Arcalís achieved its second-best season ever, falling just 0.9% short of matching its record-breaking 2023-2024 season. “These results reinforce the positioning of the Principality as a high-level international ski destination, with guaranteed snow, and a range of activities, leisure, après-ski, and complementary gastronomy that ski lovers appreciate as a differentiating factor”, says Jordi Galceran, the Commercial and Digital Transformation Director of Grandvalira Resorts.

Although early season snowfalls arrived late and prevented the resorts from opening as planned, that is, for the Purísima bridge, the resorts in Andorra were able to gradually start the season from December 8, becoming the first in the Pyrenees to open. From then on, the snowfalls received in December allowed for a good Christmas season with a high influx of visitors, which continued through January and February. Additionally, the investments made by the resorts in the snowmaking network in recent years and the great work of the ground teams have been key, once again, in offering excellent ski days during periods with less snowfall. March arrived with heavy snowfalls that, although they affected nearly all weekends with storms, accumulated significant snow depths, reaching 250 cm by the end of the season, allowing for spectacular days throughout the month and ensuring good conditions until Easter, which fell in the second half of April this year. In this regard, the resorts closed the season maintaining over 120 skiable kilometers in Grandvalira, with 95% and 70% of the slopes open in Ordino Arcalís and Pal Arinsal, respectively.

It is worth noting that, despite the resorts' closure, the Esparver slope in the El Tarter sector of Grandvalira will remain open until April 27 to host training sessions for the national teams of the Andorran Ski Federation. This reinforces the domain's commitment to allowing Andorran skiers to continue training at home for a few more days, and it continues the initiative started this season with the Estadi Eslàlom Creand, one of the season's new features, which hosted competitors from different countries in its first year, who used the new facilities for training.

A solid and growing digital strategy

This has been the sixth consecutive season in which Grandvalira Resorts has made significant efforts to improve its digital ecosystem, aiming to optimize the user experience and facilitate the purchase of ski passes and services. Visitors to the resorts have appreciated these efforts, as reflected in the 19% growth in online sales through the Grandvalira Resorts and resort websites. This is a very positive figure that is in line with previous seasons, in which an accumulated growth of 265% was already achieved between the 2019-2020 and 2023-2024 seasons.

The new APP that Grandvalira Resorts introduced at the beginning of the season also made a significant difference this winter, registering nearly 68,000 downloads, 38% more than the previous year. Active users on the APP skyrocketed to 205,000, an 84% increase compared to last season, with a total of 2,422,653 sessions (+80%). This growth also translated into a very significant increase in the sales of ski passes and services through the app, which increased tenfold via this channel. Additionally, the tool introduced the possibility of purchasing an eSIM for mobile data use in Andorra at a very favourable price. This innovation was also very well received by users, with a total of 4,300 eSIM card sales.

“Our goal is to continuously improve the digital experience for our customers, and for this reason, we have designed a solid strategy that has paid off with notable growth in users and sales. The investment in the new APP has been a success, and we will continue to develop it next season with fully innovative features in the market, such as the use of a digital ski pass on the mobile, among others”, highlights David Ledesma, the marketing director of Grandvalira Resorts.

Increase in ski days sold at Grandvalira with a total of 1,700,816

Grandvalira resort has sold a total of 1,700,816 ski days this season, a figure that represents a 2.9% increase compared to the 2023-2024 season. This winter, the resort operated for 134 uninterrupted days between December 8 and April 20, making it one of the longest seasons in recent years. The day with the highest attendance was during the Christmas period, specifically on December 28, when 24,463 skiers gathered at Grandvalira. Across all resorts, December 28 was also the day with the highest attendance, with a total of 33,418 skiers.

On the other hand, sales through Grandvalira's online channels have experienced a 16% increase, consolidating the dynamic pricing strategy and continuing several consecutive years of growth. Following trends from recent years, proximity markets have again been the main focus. People from Spain (53%) have once again represented the majority of Grandvalira’s customers, but also noteworthy is the strong performance of the UK and Irish markets (15%), which grew by 3% compared to last winter, and the French market, which remained at 11%. Additionally, strategic markets such as Latin America, especially customers from Brazil and Mexico, as well as North America, particularly the United States, have also performed well. In this regard, the commercial agreement with Ikon Pass, the pass that provides access to over 50 resorts worldwide, has once again played a key role, as Grandvalira Resorts has been part of the Ikon Pass for the past two winters.

Precipitation increases by 14% at Grandvalira

This season’s snowfalls arrived in two major waves: the first from December 8, and the second, more abundant, in March, accumulating a total of 384 cm of snow throughout the winter at Grandvalira, compared to 337 cm last season (+14%). The increase in precipitation also allowed savings in water use for the snowmaking network, with a total of 1,100,000 m³ of water being converted into snow, representing a 26% decrease compared to last winter. Nevertheless, the snowmaking network and the investments made continue to be crucial, especially during periods with less precipitation. In this sense, the renewal of a total of 239 snow cannons over the past two winters has allowed for significant energy savings, as the new units reduce consumption by 90% compared to the first-generation units.

A stage for major competitions

Regarding competitions, the resort hosted several events throughout the season, including two successful men's European Cup races held on February 3 and 4, which brought together about seventy young prospects from the continent, and La Mamba Ski Race by Joan Verdú at the beginning of April, with 400 participants. However, Grandvalira is already focused on the return of the Women's Alpine Ski World Cup next season, with a super-G and downhill taking place on February 28 and March 1, 2026, on the Àliga slope in the El Tarter sector.

Music, gastronomy, and après-ski, the magical combination of Grandvalira

At Grandvalira, the space for fun and enjoyment goes far beyond the ski slopes and also includes restaurants and terraces. In this regard, the resort has had multiple activations throughout the season, such as the San Miguel Seekers Base Camp, Freixenet Days, performances at the IQOS Terrace and In The Snow Veuve Clicquot, or the Royal Bliss DJ Sessions that have energized the days on the snow, and even extended them with parties like those at CBbC Costa Rodona.

Moreover, Grandvalira has consolidated its commitment to high-quality gastronomy with a series of special events that have combined the mountain atmosphere with truly unique culinary experiences. On one hand, the Snow Club Gourmet celebrated its 7th edition with five days featuring prestigious Michelin-star chefs such as Paolo Casagrande, Juanjo López, José Sánchez, and Hugo Muñoz. On the other hand, the El Racó de Solanelles restaurant celebrated its 25th anniversary with a special program of gastronomic events featuring award-winning chefs like Fran López, Rafa de Bedoya, Óscar García, and Álvaro Garrido. At the same time, the Refugi del Llac de Pessons hosted the Torres Brothers.

Meanwhile, L’Abarset closes the doors of another successful season, maintaining its position as the après-ski benchmark in the Pyrenees. Over 100,000 people have visited this iconic venue in the El Tarter sector of Grandvalira to enjoy the best après-ski in the Pyrenees, with major international names, as well as to delight in the renewed gastronomic offering of this season, which pleasantly surprised diners while keeping the most iconic dishes. This season, L'Abarset has been the stage for nearly 30 parties with renowned national and international DJs, as well as hosting 5 Brunch Electronik parties and 3 Bresh events, all of which were very successful. For the first time in its history, the New Year's Eve night featured a special party with more than 12 hours of non-stop après-ski, including a cocktail dinner and an after-party to welcome the new year. Artists who have rocked the venue this season include Maceo Plex, Miss Monique, Andrea Oliva, and Fatboy Slim, among others, along with national artists such as Mëstiza, Paco Osuna, Dennis Cruz, and Lola Bozanno.

95% of customers recommend Grandvalira

The resort has once again recorded a very high score in satisfaction surveys conducted with clients by an external consulting firm, and the rating has increased by 0.3 points compared to last year, reaching 8.57 out of 10. The ski and snowboard school has also improved its rating, almost achieving excellence with an average score of 8.95, a result that highlights the work of the instructors and the teaching methods used for the various disciplines. Restaurant services, for their part, have significantly improved customer perception, reaching a rating of 8.21, also recognizing the efforts of the teams to achieve excellence in service. Overall, 95% of those surveyed have stated that they would recommend the resort to others, a percentage that has also increased.

Visitors at Pal Arinsal increase by 11.8%

Pal Arinsal resort has experienced the highest growth in visitor numbers this season. Specifically, it has sold a total of 422,394 ski days, a figure that represents a significant increase of 11.8% compared to the 2023-2024 season, in which 377,857 ski days were sold. The day with the highest number of visitors at Pal Arinsal was February 8, with a total of 6,178 people. This reinforces the dominance of La Massana as one of the preferred destinations for families who choose it for their days on the snow.

On the other hand, Pal Arinsal has once again enjoyed the trust of its loyal and local customers, especially from Spain. These visitors have once again increased and now represent almost half of the resort’s clientele, with 49.5%, while the Andorran market accounted for 13% this year. The representation of the British and Irish market has also grown and now represents 21% of the total visitors.

The dynamic pricing strategy and improvements in the digital ecosystem continue to show their positive impact on online sales, which at Pal Arinsal have recorded a significant growth of 41%, continuing the upward trend since the resort integrated into the Grandvalira Resorts digital ecosystem.

Regarding precipitation this season, the La Massana resort has accumulated up to 402 cm of snow in the Arinsal sector and 286 cm in the Pal sector, with these accumulations mainly occurring in March, representing a 17% and 4% increase, respectively, compared to the snowfall accumulated last winter.

Thanks to this situation, the resort has been able to achieve significant water savings, dedicating a significantly smaller amount of cubic meters for artificial snow production, reducing the 388,352 m³ used last season to 334,722 m³ this year.

Pal Arinsal, close to excellent ratings

According to surveys conducted by an external consulting firm, skiers have improved their rating of the resort with an overall satisfaction score of 8.69, getting closer to excellence. The ski and snowboard school maintains an excellent rating with an average score of 9.15, while the restaurant services have improved their result, reaching 8.18 out of ten. The data shows that customers are very satisfied with the resort and its offerings, and they appreciate the constant improvements, which is why 94% of users have stated that they would recommend the resort.

Comapedrosa Andorra World Cup

In the sports field, one of the most important moments was the celebration of the 14th edition of the ISMF Mountain Ski World Cup, the sixth under the name Comapedrosa Andorra, which came with an important novelty. The traditional Vertical Race was replaced by the Mixed Relay Race, a dynamic and exciting event that gained special significance as an Olympic event, which will debut at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo. In fact, the Andorra event hosted about 130 athletes from 25 different countries between the two races held (Individual Race and Mixed Relay).

Now, Pal Arinsal is 100% focused on the next major event that will take place in less than three months: the 10th edition of the UCI MTB World Cup in Andorra. Once again, the best riders in the world will gather in the Principality to compete for the overall classification of the UCI MTB World Series in the traditional disciplines of Olympic cross-country (XCO), short track cross-country (XCC), and downhill (DHI), both in the Elite and U23 categories, in an event that will take place from July 9 to 13, 2025.

Ordino Arcalís records the second-best season in its history

Ordino Arcalís has come very close to repeating last year’s historical record, in which a total of 199,330 ski days were sold and 210,276 passes were issued. This season, characterized by greater snowfall and generally better conditions, the Ordino domain has recorded a total of 197,576 ski days sold, which is just 1,754 fewer than the record set last winter. In addition to these figures, skiers coming from other Grandvalira Resorts stations with the Andorra Pass and Nord Pass are included, which brings the total number of accesses at Ordino Arcalís this season to 207,011.

Thus, Ordino has reached its second-best season in history, coming very close to last winter’s record (-0.9%). It is worth noting that during March, there were several unfavorable weather episodes, especially on weekends, which affected the overall occupancy of the resorts, particularly Ordino Arcalís, which even had to completely close the domain on Saturday, March 29. Without these storms on key dates, Ordino Arcalís could have matched or even surpassed the absolute record. On the other hand, the day with the highest number of visitors at the resort was December 28, with a total of 3,631 skiers.

Regarding the origin of the skiers, the resort shows once again the loyalty of its local customers, with the Spanish market continuing to grow and representing 70% of the total this season. Next is the Andorran clientele, accounting for 20%, well ahead of the British and Irish market, which represents 4%. As for age groups, Ordino Arcalís has, among the three Andorran resorts, the youngest clientele profile, with 32% of visitors aged between 18 and 25 years old.

On the other hand, like the rest of the Grandvalira Resorts stations, Ordino Arcalís has once again experienced growth in online sales, specifically a 12% increase. The Ordino station also received the most snow, with 430 cm accumulated, a figure that represents a 13.5% increase compared to the accumulation recorded in the 23-24 season. This highlights once again its privileged location and reaffirms its prestige as a destination that often has the highest quality and quantity of snow, making it a benchmark in the freeride world. In fact, the resort has been open with 100% of its slopes and facilities for almost the entire season, and at no time has it fallen below 70% of the operational domain. This has also been possible in part thanks to the snowmaking network and the 198,700 m³ of water transformed into artificial snow this winter.

Great improvement in customer satisfaction and overall rating

The satisfaction index of Ordino Arcalís skiers has improved considerably this season, rising from a global rating of 7.92 to 8.56, very close to excellent. The ski and snowboard school has also improved its rating and has risen to 9.16 out of ten, while the restaurant services have reached a score of 7.51. In total, 98% of respondents have stated that they would recommend the resort to their acquaintances, a great figure that approaches the entirety of the customers.

Looking ahead to the first Freeride World Championships 2026

The Ordino resort has hosted several events this season, including the 33rd edition of the legendary Trofeu Borrufa and the 13th edition of the JAM Extreme FWTJ 3*. Both competitions brought together more than 250 and 120 young skiers and freeriders who put on a great show in the domain.

Now, Ordino Arcalís is already focused on the next freeride competition to be held next season: the first-ever FIS Freeride World Championships. This historic milestone will bring together the best freeriders in the world, who will compete for the first-ever world championship title in skiing and snowboarding under the authority of the FIS, a spectacular event of which Ordino Arcalís will have the privilege of being the first witness, from February 1 to 6, 2026.

Andorra's resorts prepare for the summer season

With the closure of the ski slopes, Ordino Arcalís, Pal Arinsal, and Grandvalira are getting ready for the start of summer. Starting June 7, the summer season will kick off with the opening of access to the Tristaina Solar Viewpoint via the Creussans chairlift and the Tristaina cable car. A week later, on June 14, activity will begin at Pal Arinsal with the pre-opening of the Bike Park, while starting June 21, the summer season will officially begin, along with all the offerings from Grandvalira: the Mon(t) Magic Family Park in Canillo, the Soldeu Golf Course, and the iconic Pessons Lake Restaurant in Grau Roig, as well as more than 100 km of E-Bike routes and the Funicamp for 4x4 excursions.

In addition, Pal Arinsal is preparing for the return of the MTB World Cup, which this year will celebrate its 10th edition at the resort and will host the world’s best riders from July 9 to 13, just eleven months after hosting the UCI MTB World Championships last August.
