The resorts of Grandvalira Resorts and Ski Andorra held the fourth edition of Clean Mountains Day this morning, once again coinciding with World Environment Day. The initiative brought together more than 300 participants — the highest turnout recorded so far — in a joint waste collection effort across the country’s ski domains. The aim was to help preserve the natural environment and raise awareness of the importance of keeping the mountains free of litter.
A total of 1,800 kg of waste was collected during this fourth edition of Clean Mountains Day, highlighting the need to continue promoting awareness and environmental conservation initiatives. “It has been a very positive day because the mountain is now cleaner, which is the goal of all the resorts. However, it is clear that there is still work to be done,” said Albert Rovira, one of Grandvalira Resorts’ Quality, Health, Safety and Environment managers.
The event brought together employees from the three resorts, representatives from partner organisations and members of the public who voluntarily joined the initiative. Participants included eight volunteers from Connectand, the corporate volunteering platform promoted by Caldea, Creand and SETAP365, as well as eight Civil Protection volunteers and more than twenty members of the Andorran Ski Federation (FAE) U23 group, the Esquí Club Ordino Arcalís (ECOA) and the School Ski Programme, made up mainly of skiers and technical staff.
Volunteers from FEDA, EFPEM and Bomosa also took part, together with members of the Andorran Government’s Ministry of Environment. The involvement of these groups helped strengthen the collaborative and cross-sector nature of the initiative. “We are noticing that every year there is greater awareness of the importance of keeping the mountains clean, and we see that people are increasingly willing to participate and get involved,” Rovira added.
L’home del Sac also collaborated in the transportation and recycling of the collected waste.
The resorts’ quality and environmental management teams coordinated the various volunteer groups, which were distributed across different areas of the ski domains to collect waste revealed after the snow melt. Afterwards, participants gathered to sort and weigh the collected materials, ensuring their proper management and recycling. The day concluded with refreshments offered to the volunteers at various resort restaurants as a token of appreciation for their commitment.
Through this initiative, Grandvalira Resorts and Ski Andorra reaffirm their commitment to sustainability and the protection of the mountain environment by promoting actions that help preserve the natural areas that host winter activities. In addition, as in previous years, further waste collection days will be organised during the summer months with the participation of local clubs and the Andorran Ski Federation, which continue to support these conservation and clean-up efforts year after year.
