Grandvalira, amongst the 6 best ski resorts in Europe

Grandvalira not only boasts the largest skiable area in southern Europe, but was also amongst the six sites shortlisted for Best European Resort at the 2012 World Snow Awards, which took place last weekend as part of the Ski and Snowboard Show in London.

According to the Organising Committee, Grandvalira’s Soldeu sector was shortlisted for Best European Resort due to the excellence of its services and facilities. The nomination also rewards the domain for its successful organisation of the Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup in February 2012.

Grandvalira is the only Pyrenean ski resort that made it onto the shortlist for these annual prizes, which are awarded by a panel of leading experts and specialists in the field, top executives from the leading tour operators and a public vote open to readers of Ski & Snowboard magazine (UK), which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

The 2012 Prize for Best European Resort finally went to Livigno (Italy), which edged out Grandvalira and five other renowned Alpine sites: Campiglio (Italy), Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Austria), Val d'Isère (France), Montafon (France) and Courchevel (France).

Other accolades at the 2012 World Snow Awards included: Best North American Resort (Fernie – Canada); Best Mainstream Operator (Crystal); Best Family Resort (Avoriaz – France); Best Resort for Après (Zermatt – Switzerland); Best Airline (Swiss Airlines); Best Clothing Manufacturer (Arc’teryx); and Best Accessory Manufacturer (Scott).

Finally, we should mention that Grandvalira was present at the Ski and Snowboard Show in London from October 31 to November 4, as part of the Ski Andorra promotional stand.
