Grandvalira welcomes Per Jonsson and Asbjørn Eggebø, two of the most renowned riders on the freeride scene

This coming January 26 and 27, Grandvalira will welcome Per Jonsson and Asbjørn Eggebø, who are both amongst the leading freeriders of the moment. The new Encampadana Freeride Area by GORE-TEX will be the venue for a Freeride Session featuring these two Scandinavian off-piste specialists. Media darling Per Jonsson (Sweden) is one of the most respected Telemark freeriders today, whilst extreme skier Asbjørn Eggebø (Norway) is also much in demand to lend his image to brands launching promotional campaigns.

This coming weekend, then, the two riders will put the off-piste areas of Grandvalira to the test, accompanying the 20 winners of the Vassi Freeride Weekend, a competition organised in cooperation with Viladomat Esports and sponsored by Haglöfs and GORE-TEX®. The competition winners will enjoy two days packed with activities led by Jonsson and Eggebø, including, most outstandingly, a clinic at which the pair will give their best tips for off-piste skiing and a heliski descent from one of the highest points in the largest ski resort in southern Europe. This latter activity will be followed by a video session at which the participants will be able to view the results of their descent.

Jonsson and Eggebø will select two of the participants to accompany them in the heliski session, and the freeskiers and participants will find the Encampadana Freeride Area in its best condition for the season so far. Thanks to the snow that has fallen intermittently over the last two weeks, this area is now eminently skiable.

We should also remember that, when Grandvalira opened the revamped freeride area at the resort in December, the special guests were two legends from the sport, Seb Michaud and Bruno Compagnet. Clearly, then, Grandvalira is firmly committed to promoting off-piste skiing, a speciality that attracts more and more fans each season.

Grandvalira expected to be 100% open

Grandvalira is working intensely to ensure that the entire 210 km skiable area at the resort is 100% open this weekend. Thanks to the snowfalls over the last two weeks, the slopes are covered by powder snow at depths ranging from 80 to 160 cm. Moreover, more snow is expected on Thursday, whilst the forecast points to good weather at the weekend.

New Ski Pass Plus+ introduced

Grandvalira has now launched sales of the Ski Pass Plus+, a new option for skiers seeking to enjoy the snow to the full in the easiest and most economical style. This new form of payment rewards skiers with a 15% discount on the price of the daily ski pass from the second day’s skiing on. Moreover, the Ski Pass Plus+ also has other advantages, including discounts for the whole family, which can be accumulated with the individual discount.

Once collected from our ticket offices, the Ski Pass Plus +, which is available only from the website indicated below, can be used for all visits throughout the season. The cost of each day’s skiing will be charged, with discounts automatically taken into account, to the credit card indicated during the purchasing process at: http://www.grandvalira.com/ca/forfet-plus

The resort also provides other types of ski passes and special rates, such as the Morning Ski Pass, which enables users to ski from 9 am to 12 noon at the special price of €20.

Agenda of weekend activities

Once more this weekend, Grandvalira is organising a full programme of activities at the resort so that our younger visitors can enjoy a truly special day out. On Saturday, January 26, the revamped Bababoom Circus circuit will open at Grandvalira-El Tarter with a new dual course enlivened by games and activities for children up to 12 years. There will be three sessions per hour at the flatter part of the Bababoom Circus from 11 am to 1 pm, with painting and balloon modelling, as well as hot chocolate and snacks all round.

Moreover, Friday, January 25 will see the opening of the Boardercross circuit on the Tubs slope in the

Pas de la Casa sector.

Finally, on the morning of Saturday, January 26, the Grandvalira-Soldeu-El Tarter Ski and Snowboard School is organising the Avet Club Championship for all categories at the Esparver slope in El Tarter. The next day, in cooperation with Crèdit Andorrà, the SEC is organising the Marmot Trophy.
