Grandvalira records the highest snowfall in February for the last five seasons

More than ever, this February Grandvalira deserved name of the Domain of Snow. Throughout the second month of the year, the Andorran resort had snowfalls of up to 302 centimeters, the highest figure for the last five seasons according to the team of experts at Grandvalira.

During the 2013-14 season, which overall was a great snow season, the quantity of snowfalls throughout the month of February with 81 centimeters was three times less than this year. Specifically, the snowfalls this February were concentrated at the start and end of the month. Last week was especially intense, as 179 centimeters of fresh snow were available to the visitors of the resort. The two most noteworthy days were the 25 and 26 of February with 45 and 69 cm of snow, respectively.

In relation to current opening and snow conditions, Grandvalira maintains 200 kilometers of slope open, being 95% of the domain. The Andorran resort plans to open nearly 100% of its facilities for the coming weekend. The snow level is between 140 and 210 cm.

The El Tarter Snowpark predicts it will open at 100% for the weekend, whereas the Xavi Park and Sunset Park Peretol (Grau Roig) are being rebuilt after the great snowfalls and will be fully available to riders from this Saturday.

The Xavi Park will set the stage for the Rookie Open this Saturday, a junior freestyle competition in skiing and snowboarding to find the rookie of the year. The winning prize will be sponsorship from Salomon (ski) and Nitro (snowboard) for 2016.
